Kati's homepage
Welcome to my very
own homepage. I have to admit that I probably would have never created
my own page if my teacher hadn't told me to do so. This is a part of ADP
classes on data communications. Really, I'm not that interested
in computers myself.
Below you can
see the contents to choose from, if everything goes as it should. So, click
and enjoy (if that is possible).

My
so-called life
So who am I? Actually I'm not quite
sure myself. Sometimes I think I was adopted to this crazy family or maybe
it was my brothers, who were adopted...But let's start right from the beginning
without wasting any more precious time. The day that I was born was a lovely
late summer day in 1979, to be more precise, 15th of August in that year.
I won't tell you anything about my childhood 'cos you'd most likely consider
it extremely boring. Only my parents would have enough patience
to read such stories.
Today I still live at home with
my family. My mother teaches in the elementary school and my father is
at home as he has retired from his job as a timber jack. Although I love
animals I don't have a pet of my own. Too bad, but fortunately my friend
has this adorable cat, who I can tease and play with. Instead of pets I've
got two brothers. Topi, who'll probably mock my page, is in the army at
the moment. Otto then again is 13 years old and still at school.
During the spare time I write loads
of letters to my pen pals all over the world (hello to you, if you're reading),
go to aerobics, play floorball, listen to music and read. My favourite
kind of music is mostly British pop music, and especially bands like Blur,
Oasis, Kula Shaker...and I really like Alanis Morissette. Not only
because she's got a great voice or because she makes fantastic songs, that
have a true meaning, but because she seems to be a very strong personality,
an independent woman with her own thoughts and ideas. She's the kind of
person I appreciate. My Finnish favourites are Suurlähettiläät
and Ismo Alanko, but now, back to my spare time 'cos when talking about
it we of course cannot forget my dear friends. They don't have their own
homepages nor do they like the same things that I do, but they're great
anyway. My oldest and best friend, Eeva-Liisa has her own page though.
Don't forget to visit it.
Just to keep the teachers happy
I'd better tell you something about my school. So, at the moment I'm studying
at Joutsa's Lukio
(senior secondary school) as my goal to
graduate next year. What I'll be doing after that, is still quite a mystery.
I do know that I want to study at the university somewhere in Finland,
and I'm intrerested in languages and different kinds of cultures. I just
don't want to make any permanent plans yet because I want to try everything
and see all the possibilities I've got. I have no hurry in deciding yet,
do I? Besides, it's not so easy to get to the university, at least not
in Finland.

Tribute to Blur
I heard my first song from this
fabulous, maybe even the best band in the world, when I was on a class
trip in England. I might have heard their songs before, but "Girls and
Boys" was the song that made me fall in love with the band, if so one can
say. It was Damon Albarn's extraordinary voice and songs, that were too
weird to be anything else but BLUR.
-
British media has created a rivalry between
Blur and Oasis. I think it's foolish to compare bands like those two. I
like them both, and I think Oasis plays quite...how would I say...typical
music compared to Blur. Blur has its own style, that is impossible to mix
up with something else. You can expect just anything from these guys. Listen
to Blur's and Oasis' records! It is true that the both bands belong to
the same wide category of British guitar pop music, but that's all they
have in common. Besides, why should we pigeonhole things anyway?
Here I have put together the short
history of Blur for all you who don't know this particular band. Maybe
you'll be able to change your mind when you'll notice that Blur isn't just
some band with handsome lads on the covers of magazines, lads who have
come from total nowhere, made a couple of hits and a lot of money.
Blur is composed of four British
working-class guys, who started their career by the name Seymour. They
managed to get a record deal with Food Records, and in 1991 Blur's first
album Leisure was released. Those days Blur was still
a group of amateurs, but amateurs or professionals, does it really matter
as long as Leisure was a success in UK. After that Blur was a bit
out of track. They travelled around Europe and Japan making gigs and promoting,
but Blur kind of lost its touch. The boys were tired and naturally it affected
their music. This period was a blessing in disquise after all because while
on tour in USA Blur found the old British values again, that made the music
so special. The next album Modern Life is Rubbish (-93) was just
a foretaste of coming...In -94 Parklife was released and it reached
a huge success in UK. In Brit Awards they were chosen to be the best band,
and they also received awards from the best album, single and video. Still,
it was not until The Great Escape (-95) when Blur was known also
in Finland and in some other still impregnable parts of Europe. In -97
Blur released their album Blur and they have also released a special album
in Japan.
Damon Albarn makes most of Blur's
songs and sings them, but he can also play a bunch of instruments from
hammond to melodica. Graham Coxon is the guitarist of the band, but he
too masters other instruments including for instance clarinet. Alex James
does some vocals besides playing his bass guitar and Dave Rowntree plays
the drums. Together they are Blur.
