Seniors´ Ball 2002 In
the morning of the Seniors’ Day “the babies” (first-graders)
decorated the ballroom and the dining room to be in a fine shape for the coming
festival. Earlier around 11 in the morning had three pairs already showed their
skills in the old people`s home
and danced for the
senior citizens. The visit was very
pleasant to both sides and in the end everybody wished that this kind of visit
would also become a tradition. Around noon all the seniors’ (second-graders)
visited the lower and upper level comprehensive schools, and after that it was
time for the dinner, except that now "the babies" took care of the
serving. After this it was time to move to the ballroom to, introduce the
seniors and finally the party was ready to start. The
masters of the ceremonies were Miia Valtonen and Jari Saltiola. The first
dance was called “Poloneesi” where the chain of pairs walks proudly one
behind the other around the dance floor. The next dance was Mignon –a waltz,
which was already known as far back as the 19th century. The waltz
was followed by a breathtaking tango and then the soloist
Miia Valtonen performed a song called “Akselin ja Elinan häävalssi”. After
that it was time for “Emma” – a waltz, Cicapoon and the Spanish dance Pas
déspagne. The climax of the delightful festival was definitely the hilarious
dance contest where five pairs distinguished themselves by showing some
characteristic dancing skills. Although the competition was very close, managed
Janne Peiponen and Juho Aarnio, to became the winners. The choir of the
first-graders performed the songs “Lapin tango” and “La Cumparsita”. The
band included a bass player Kalle Hölttä, a piano player Markus Tuominen
and a drummer Antti Huuskonen. The songs “Vesivehmaan jenkka” and “Jätkän
humppa” created a little bit livelier mood, whereas “Ranskalaiset korot”
and “Suklaasydän” made the party more emotional. The last two songs
were “Suvivalssi” and “Kultainen nuoruus”, but before these it was time
for the award ceremony. Hanna Paalanen and Ville Kämppi
were warded as the best dance couple, Laura Dammert and
Juho Aarnio as the best pair and Anu-Maria Lahtonen and Otto Suuronen both
received an award for the most charming and elegant dress and suit. In the very
end the music, atmosphere and glory were excellent. You can
